Christoph Heesen studied medicine at the Universities of Marburg and Kiel and received his MD in 1993. He completed his neurology training at the General Hospital in Bremen –Ost and the Univeristy Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf. Since 1995 he is head of the MS outpatient unit and since 2004, he has been consultant neurologist. He was deputy director of the Institute of Neuroimmunology and Clinical MS Research (INIMS) from 2006–2010. In 2017 he became an endowed professor of clinical and rehabilitative MS research at the INIMS. His research focusses on behavioural interventions and strategies to enhance patient autonomy with a special interest in Ehealth interventions.
